Like most desis, I love chaat - the quintessential street food in India. Street food (or fast food, for that matter) is seldom healthy, although always mouth-watering. When I chanced upon Raaga’s Kala chana chaat, the recipe was definitely healthy and sounded yummy, too.
I adapted the recipe based on the vegetables and spices that was available at hand, like
- adding peas and corn (I love it for the crunch)
- adding boiled potatoes and a pinch of chaat masala a la aloo-channa chaat
- omitting the onions (I can’t handle raw-onions)

What I realized was this was a very forgiving and versatile recipe - you could just about add any vegetable that has a crunch to it and it comes out just as good. A perfect way to start a dinner or just as a healthy evening snack. Hence my dilemma - is it a chaat or a salad?











I would say tasty salad
Seems to combine all the goodness of salad with the taste of chaat without the deep fried stuff that goes in chaat as well!
